the facegenerator is really cool, but only works on ie4+
funny, people can take leave of such things as common sense when technology is involved. also funny how people can be so insenstive about a behaviour, but so sensitive when the label is applied to match. these are my insights on human nature for the day.
neat, a bunch of timex sinclarirs back on the market
the people of yugoslavia deserve their democracy way more than the people of the united states.
Ficus2000.com -- The People's Plant - The Ficus will accept no campaign contributions. All it needs is air, sunlight, and water. "And a little fertilizer," which Moore said the Ficus "should find plenty of in Washington."
A vote for Nader is a vote for Bush.
Nader acts nonchalant about the potshots. "They're basically part of the Democratic Party apparatus, and they're frightened of George Bush, and they have lots of friends who are in politics," he says, before dropping into a little condescension. "They socialize with them and they are part of the Democratic Party. If that is the case, they are going to go after anyone who can take votes away from their hero, Al Gore."
He's right, of course.
great decss dvd logo
pat buchanan sounds surprisingly lucid and intelligent when he's not being a nazi. although you gotta admit that stealing the reform party's federal funding is pretty damn low.
fun to read, at least.
the boston independent media center (a subsite of the imc) has mp3s of the latest nader rally, as well as chomsky's recent talk on globalization.
oh, for a look at what goes on in uncensored news feeds which don't get shown in the final edition, take a look at spin, a documentary made w/ footage from the 92 election.
stanford law prof lawrence lessig expounds on what the courts are thinking
The regulation of porn raises a question of free speech. Courts get that. So too does the regulation of copyright raise a question of free speech. But courts don't yet see that. They don't yet understand the ways in which this state sponsored monopoly over "who can say what" can, at times, interfere with the "freedom of speech." They don't see it because for 200 years, copyright law has functioned with little interference from the First Amendment. There have been a handful of cases raising extreme claims of conflict, but no clear case that yet addresses how courts are to evaluate the intersection of copyright law and the First Amendment.
incidentally, lessig just had a debate w/ mpaa moron jack valenti. summaries on /.
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
oh yeah, and read about the space fungus on mir. theoretically, you could probably use that fungus to decompose landfill, leading you w/ easy breezy vinegar and other organic compounds.
my silly little dhtml search box now works w/ mozilla. also now will send older js browsers to the archive page, which has a non-dhtml search box.
right about now, i'm really wishing that the built-in mozilla dom viewer worked.
found it again, going to write it down this time. ie dom -> w3 dom:
if (document.getElementsByTagName("*")) {
document.all = document.getElementsByTagName("*")
}
last night i chopped up a honeydew melon that i had gotten from the local ghetto supermarket (good old 32). i'm not complaining about the market. it's cheap (honeydew, 5lbs for $1), although i don't quite trust the meat and you have to keep an eye out on expiration dates. anyway, cutting up the one melon i got was fun (swords are cool) and even after me and my roommate had our fill, i was left with two very full disposable glad food containers which are sitting right now in the refrigerator.
haha, around now, you might wonder, why has this normally sparse weblog suddenly turned into a navel gazing journal-like entity? it's a simple matter, actually. it's 6am, i'm tired and bored, yet i don't want to do any work, and i don't much feel like sleeping. well, napping maybe, but i don't want to sleep through the whole day. that, and it's been quite a while since i've just rambled.
just taking a bit of time off from all the work i know i should be doing.
freaky, looks like my dhcp lease / networking was working funny because apparently (sometime today probably) the year got set to the year 2019. chameleon clock (sweet program, definitely worth the $15 it cost to register a few years ago) let me know a couple minutes ago that my time was off by a hair under 6939 days. as young william miller said, "that explains so much."
tangent: check out the stillwater web site (it's been up for months and months) - oh wait, it's not half as cool as it used to be. nm
so, as i was saying before mozilla rudely crashed, i was at apple's frontpage enjoy (ok, laughing at) the nice big "steve jobs lickable" 1 click® button and noticed some of the headlines flashing on the screen. ah, the festering putrid scent of pr. read this stinking pile:

?If you are serious about video work and thinking about getting a new computer to do it, your first choice should be a Macintosh,? says BusinessWeek technology columnist Stephen H. Wildstrom. [Sep 20]
and it's not just the quote that's bad, it's the article. the tech columnist, sadly, as most tech columnists are wont to do, is just simply talking out of his ass. he compares an experience he had video editing years ago on a pc to frame his discussion (can you begin smelling the bias?), and talks about waiting for his P2 to render transitions (since apple does not sell g4 systems w/ realtime cards, he would be spending the same time waiting for rendering), and when he says that the apple comes into it's own for professional work, he cites as a weakness, that while premiere is a favorite for mac and pc, the pc is more limited because premiere only "works directly with expensive professional DV equipment." sorry to bust it to you, bub, but if you're serious about realtime video editing, you are going to have much better luck w/ the pc. as far as i know, there is nothing that lets you do realtime editing for the mac for under $2500, while the pc market has offererings from pinnacle, canopus, and matrox, all of them supporting premiere. but otoh, i guess any rebuttal i make doesn't really mean much as the writer is most likely a moron and crack fiend (gotta round out any rant w/ some ad homenim attacks; helps to get any pent up anger out of the system). end of pr reading for today.
first post w/ blogger from mozilla.
i should finish my nader/mastercard ad parody.
